Education's AI Dilemmas, an Ethics Working Session

Welcome to Our Shared Dilemmas

We know you're facing complex questions about generative AI in your educational practice. You're not alone in this journey, and that's exactly why we will come together. During this working session we will spar about your dilemmas that you bring in, explore various resolutions to them, and try new ways of working together! All with the ethics of generative AI in mind.

We want to make a space where you can bring the GenAI dilemmas keeping you up at night, the ones that don't have simple answers in any handbook. We're here to create a safe, supportive environment where we can tackle these challenging conversations together.

What We'll Do Together

13:00 - 14:30 Intro and your dilemmas
14:30 - 15:00 Choosing our focus
15:00 - 16:30 Working together
16:30 - 17:00 Connecting over drinks

Why This Matters Now

Generative AI has been transforming education for two years, but the ethical questions haven't gotten easier; they've become more nuanced, more personal, and urgent.  The friction that you as educators experience, comes from the push of emerging technologies were the public values are not always aligned, or even considered. Providing communities is something we offer at SURF and Npuls. Because we know that responsible innovation isn't something you can do in isolation. At SURF and Npuls, we believe that emerging technologies should serve public values, not the other way around. But we also know that responsible innovation isn't something you can do in isolation.

What We’ll Do Differently

We are planning an experimental approach to doing ethics in practice, designed specifically for educators navigating AI decisions within existing institutions. We recognize your reality. You may not have the power to design your AI tools, but you absolutely have agency in how you approach and respond to AI dilemmas in your educational practice. In response to the transformation by Generative AI, multiple frameworks and information sessions have become available. Yet, these don't support the opportunity for discussions and practical solutions, which can be implemented in your educational context.

Come As You Are

Whether you're just beginning to explore AI in education or you've been experimenting for months, your perspective is valuable. Bring your questions, your concerns, your partial solutions, and your curiosity. This is a space for our members, shaped by our members. We speak the same language of student needs, institutional pressures, and the desire to do right by the learners we serve.
