FIRE (FPGA Innovation Research Exchange) - Fifth Edition

On June 27th, 2025 SURF and the Dutch Hardware Acceleration network organized the fifth edition of HWAcc and FIRE (FPGA Innovation Research Exchange) workshop. The theme of this event was on high-throughput data movement and data abstraction. We had presentations from industrial heavyweights such as NVIDIA and IBM as well as talks from Universities such as TU Delft, TU Darmstadt and University of Groningen.

After successfully organizing multiple events, SURF at Utrecht again hosted the fifth edition of the FIRE series. As the focus of this edition was on high-throughput data movement and data abstraction, we were pleased to have Peter Hofstee from IBM. He presented the approaches and lessons learned in raising abstraction level of hardware design. The second keynote speach was by Christiaan Baaij who presented high-level hardware design using Clash. In addition to presentations from research universities such as TU Delft, Tu Darmstadt and University Groningen, we also had talks from industries such as NVIDIA, Voltron Data and QbayLogic.
