The meeting was attended by nearly 70 people from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. It was nice to hear all these different perspectives!
During the meeting, GÉANT gave a presentation about OpenUp2U, a digital learning environment available to all European educational institutions. The purpose of the open version is to support and promote the possibilities of online learning during this special and demanding time. For more information about OpenUp2U, visit: https://up2university.eu/open/.
Subsequently, UNIT (NREN** Norway), CARNET (NREN Croatia), ARNES (NREN Slovenia), and JISC (NREN United Kingdom) shared their first experiences and approaches for (supporting) the transition to online education. This too was very interesting to hear! The presentations of UNIT, CARNET, and ARNES are now available to everyone.
GÉANT created a wiki page where they collect information from different countries on this theme.
* GÉANT is the pan-European data network for the research and education community. It connects national research and education networks across Europe and enables collaboration through several projects. The Taskforce Edu is such an initiative, in which SURF participates and is a member of the steering committee.
** A National Research and Education Network (NREN) is a specialised internet service provider dedicated to supporting the needs of a country's research and education communities. SURF is the Dutch NREN.
