A chatbot with artificial intelligence you can consult to answer questions, write papers and theses or unravel coded text. ChatGPT has enjoyed massive use among students since its launch in November. Should we, as an educational institution, put a stop to this, or should we learn to deal with it?
That is the question on the minds of many universities, colleges and high schools. While many are concerned about the developments of ChatGPT, according to Erdinç Saçan, lecturer and researcher at Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Fontys should be open to using the new AI tool. “Every teacher who takes himself seriously should test this.”

SURF and the SIG AI in Education organised an online seminar on ChatGPT with over 600 participants. What is the technology behind ChatGPT and how does it work? ChatGPT is a gamechanger for education. According to some experts, it offers tremendous opportunities to enrich the learning process with new features. However, this also brings new challenges. During the seminar "What is the impact of ChatGPT on education?", several education experts engaged in a discussion guided two statements and responded to questions from the chat.
