Het is zover, mijn UvA grassroot “Virtual Reality Lectures” is goed gekeurd en we hebben gister de grassroots kick-off bijeenkomst gehad. Ik heb me voorgenomen om gedurende de looptijd van deze grassroot te bloggen over de vorderingen en deze blog is dan ook de eerste in de reeks.
Using SURFconext, students and employees of the affiliated institutions can log in for a variety of services using their account at their own institution. Although this is very convenient, it also brings with it certain concerns regarding privacy. For the thesis I am writing at SURFnet I am conducting research on polymorphic pseudonyms. This technology can help resolve some of these privacy issues.
Do you know that feeling when you have to do a roleplay with colleagues or fellow students and find yourself freezing up completely because you are caught up trying to remember the theory, rather than focusing on the conversation? You find yourself thinking: is there no better way of doing this? We are working on creating just that at the Open University’s Psychology department, with i-SPOT. Soon, students will be able to take their first steps in communication training safely ensconced on their living room sofas, by having conversations with their own laptops. After that, they will be able to enter into the roleplay with greater confidence and self-awareness and focus on the content of the conversation at hand.

In physiotherapy practice, clinical reasoning is required in order to understand and address health issues. However, assessing people’s clinical reasoning skills proves to be challenging, as there usually isn’t just one right answer. As part of the O-SCT project, which forms part of the Physiotherapy programme at the HAN University of Applied Sciences, we are experimenting with the online Script Concordance Test (O-SCT), which is able to take into account differences of opinion as to the best diagnosis or treatment option.
In de fysiotherapiepraktijk is klinisch redeneren noodzakelijk om gezondheidsproblemen te begrijpen en op te lossen. Het toetsen van klinisch redeneren is echter een uitdaging, omdat er in de praktijk meestal geen pasklare oplossing is. In het project O-SCT van de HAN opleiding fysiotherapie experimenteren we met de online Script Concordance Test (O-SCT) die rekening houdt met verschillen in opvatting over de beste diagnose of de beste behandeling.
Via SURFconext kunnen studenten en medewerkers van de aangesloten instellingen inloggen bij allerlei diensten, met hun account bij de eigen instelling. Dat is erg handig, maar brengt ook privacybezwaren met zich mee. Ik schrijf mijn scriptie bij SURFnet, en doe daarvoor onderzoek naar polymorfe pseudoniemen. Dit is een technologie die een deel van de privacyproblemen op kan lossen.
Het UMC Utrecht presenteerde tijdens de Roadshow Onderwijsinnovatie van SURFnet hoe zij binnen het programma Onbegrensd Leren hebben gewerkt aan het verbeteren van het contactonderwijs via blended learning.
Voor het maken van een filmpje, dus ook voor een kennisclip, kan het handig zijn om een script te schrijven. Dit helpt je vooral om goed voorbereid aan een opname te beginnen. ‘Things’ online
We are constantly surrounded by things; as far as I am concerned, there is no need for them to be online all the time – although I wouldn’t have minded if my fridge had let me know there was still some old bread in the freezer compartment. Come to think of it, quite a few things in life might be better if they were online: just take a walk through the city and you’ll see full waste containers, half submerged boats, parking spaces, bicycles, lantern posts. The air quality in some places also seems a bit suspect, and could certainly do with the odd measurement. I also keep running into more amusing and useful ‘Internet-of-things’ applications developed by LoRa users, such as beehive monitoring systems.
